Writing Movies
I began screenwriting in late 2019 at 19 years old. The first story I put to page was a TV pilot titled, Weekend Warriors, an animated comedy based on Friday night in high school that escalated quickly. After a few months spent on Youtube research, script reading, and masterclasses. I was able to generate a wildly overwritten draft of my first feature, Life After Death. It was dark, intense and a little depressing but at 19 I had written a full length movie. And from there till now, I haven’t stopped.
This is the story structure I have developed and coined, Dyl’s Story Structure. This is the outline I follow when initially mapping out my stories. I don’t use it as gospel, I use it as a guide to get me started.
This is a general overview of how I write my movies.
It’s pretty simple. All I use is a stack of notecards, a notebook, and final draft.
Here’s a taste of my writing process. This was shot and filmed while I was re-writing my feature film, Running Late.
